We tell your story and build the business behind it
We work with farms, ranches, food businesses and organizations across the United States on two things: telling their story and building the business behind it.
Who we are
Ashfount is a consulting and media company based in Austin, Texas. We work in US regenerative agriculture: the farms and ranches that rebuild their soil, the food businesses that buy from them, and the organizations that hold the sector together. We are a service business. We work for the people on the land, and we help them tell their story and build the business that keeps them there.
Two kinds of work sit side by side here. Media is how a farm, a brand or an organization becomes known: writing, video, podcasts, campaigns and the publishing we do under our own name. Consulting is the work behind the scenes: strategy, positioning, channels, partnerships and planning. Most engagements draw on both. To see what that looks like on real farms and brands, see regenerative agriculture in practice in our case studies. A story only carries when the business behind it is sound, and a sound business still has to be heard.
Media
Regenerative agriculture has good stories and too few people telling them well. Our media work puts a farm, a brand or a program in front of the people who need to know it exists: customers, chefs, buyers, members and neighbors. We produce the work ourselves, from the first interview to the finished piece.
Writing and editorial
Website copy, articles, newsletters and long-form pieces that explain what you do and why it matters, in plain language and in your own voice.
Video and short documentary
Short films shot on the farm, in the kitchen or at the market: the land, the animals, the people and the work, told at the pace it actually happens.
Podcast production for clients
Planning, recording, editing and publishing a show that belongs to you, with your name on it and a steady rhythm your listeners can rely on.
Campaigns and content programs
A season launch, a CSA drive, a new product or a year of steady output: we plan the calendar, produce the pieces and keep it all on schedule.
Our own publishing
We also publish under our own name. The Insights blog carries a new article every two weeks on regenerative agriculture, the US local food scene and farm to table. The Regen Ag Resources directories list the books, podcasts, farms, service providers, people, organizations and food brands we have checked and think are worth your time.
Consulting
Consulting is the quieter half of what we do. It starts with a conversation about where the operation stands and where it should be in a few years, and it ends with a plan the owner can run without us. The case studies show where that kind of plan has led other operations.
Strategy and positioning
What makes this farm, ranch or brand different, who it serves and how it should describe itself.
- Positioning and messaging
- Pricing and product range
- Where to compete and where to stay out
Channels and go-to-market
Getting the product to the people who will pay a fair price for it.
- Direct to consumer: farm stores, CSAs, online sales and home delivery
- Farm to table: chefs, restaurants, grocers and institutional buyers
- Go-to-market plans for food brands
Partnerships and planning
The agreements and routines that keep an operation steady.
- Partnerships with processors, distributors and other farms
- Annual and multi-year planning
- Operating reviews of a season or a year
The land comes first. A farm that heals its soil, feeds its neighbors and pays its people has a story worth telling and a business worth building.
How we work
We listen first
Every engagement starts on your ground: a walk of the fields, a look at the books, a conversation with the people who do the work. We write nothing until we understand what is there.
Plain language
No jargon and no slide decks that need a translator. If the person who has to use a plan cannot understand it, we are not finished.
Long term
Soil takes years to rebuild, and so does a market. We plan in seasons and years, and we would rather see a small step that lasts than a launch that fades.
Nine beliefs
Our nine beliefs, from healing the soil to thinking long term, shape which work we take on and how we do it. If they match how you farm or run your business, we will get along.
Who we work with
Our clients share one thing: they are building something in regenerative agriculture that is meant to last, like the farms and brands in our case studies. The same kinds of businesses fill our directories.
Farms and ranches
Grazing operations, market gardens, orchards, dairies and mixed farms that sell direct or want to start. See the Farms and Ranches directory.
Food brands
Regional and national brands built on regenerative sourcing, from meat and dairy to grain, produce and pantry goods. See the Food Brands directory.
Service providers
Soil labs, fencing and water specialists, processors, equipment and software makers, and advisors who serve regenerative farms. See the Service Providers and Manufacturers directory.
Organizations
Nonprofits, associations, land trusts, research groups and programs that support the sector. See the Organizations directory.
Tell us what you are building
A first conversation is the easiest way to find out whether we can help, and we reply in plain language.
